April 17, 2010 and Kelly Pavlik’s career was flagging. Despite holding two middleweight titles, the Youngstown fighter had suffered his first defeat, up at light-heavyweight, to the wily old fox Bernard Hopkins.
Argentine road warrior Sergio Martinez had done things the hard way. Arriving off the back of a majority decision loss to Paul Williams (that he would go on to avenge in devastating fashion) preceded by a draw with Kermit Cintron, Sergio’s American dream was at a crossroads and he needed a big performance.
