Enjoyed reading that Steve. I know its easy to say this now but I was one of those that wasn't sure he could go all the way when he signed for Arum. Arum was smart as the early career against some no names helped cash in on the Irish/American crowd but I think Arum knew he was limited. Don't get me wrong a skilled fighter but didn't have the power to keep the best fighters off him and it showed in the end. Sad to see him go out to Gill like that but Gill well deserved this time and the win

Yep, to be fair Dan you did say this from the start. I think the matchmaking and pathway he was taken in comparison to Shakur Stevenson showed what Bob was thinking behind the scenes, even if he never said it in public. The punch was never there, but the elusive movement and legwork was there until last night. He got hit and stayed hit. A worrying ending.

Morning Steve; in June after the Lopez defeat you asked your readers:

“if he were to hang up the gloves now, how would you rate Conlan’s career?”

As it now looks very likely that this is the end, wondering what your answer to this question is?

Interesting question that still remains. I think he will view it as a disappointment. At the risk of repeating myself, when Conlan turned pro they were talking world titles minimum, to the point of fighting for them within Lomachenko time frames. It became clear early that would not happen. Not to win a world title at all will be a huge blow. I think the Wood fight was a turning point that took a lot out of Michael.

Brilliant breakdown Steve. Absolutely everything covered. Some of the early fights I missed. Thanks
